Introduction:

The Department of Dermatology and Venereology of Bir Hospital was established in 1966 AD. Being the first place to provide the dermatological services in the country. Since its establishment, it has been providing services to the patients as a tertiary referral centre for various dermatological diseases, sexually transmitted infections (STI) and Leprosy cases. It is giving its services through general OPD, indoor admissions, minor operations, special operations and emergency on call consultations. With the initiation of residency program in MD Dermatology under NAMS in the year 2005 AD (2062 BS), the department has become more vibrant with continuous clinical care and academic activities. Thirty nine students (including 6 foreigners) have already passed the MD .Dermatology final examination of NAMS. At present  nine residents are pursuing the course in different years. Total number of consultant dermatologists currently working in the department is eight.
