Background

Respiratory Medicine deals with various types of respiratory diseases like COPD, Bronchial Asthma, Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, ILDs, lung cancer, pleural diseases, sleep disordered breathing etc. This specialty also deals with different severe form of diseases requiring mechanical ventilation and ICU care. Respiratory medicine unit is equipped with PFT lab consisting of Spirometry, DLCO machine, FeNO test, Six minute walk test etc. This unit also has bronchoscopy lab equipped with diagnostic and therapeutic pediatric/adult flexible bronchoscopes, semi rigid thoracoscope and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) system. There is separate 5 bedded respiratory ICU in Bir hospital which is run by our team of experts in respiratory medicine.

This unit runs DM-Pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine programs. There are currently two batches of DM-Residents working in the department.
